Sri Lanka, Colombo

Energy Hubs

PWER.ME Foundation, together with E-ZR PWER and SL Mobility, is installing Energy hubs with battery-switching systems for electric scooters in Colombo, the capital of Sri Lanka. The aim is to set up 150 locations in five years and have users participate in the operation of the energy hubs they use. Some hubs will be extended with solar panels, a large battery, and or charging facilities for other vehicles.

Colombo is the capital and largest city in Sri Lanka by population. The Colombo metropolitan area has a population of 5.6 million. It is the financial center of the island and is primarily a tourist destination. It is a busy and vibrant city with a mix of modern life, colonial buildings and monuments.

Food Forest

Together with Biofy, the PWER.ME Foundation promotes the food transition and attaches great importance to Permaculture. Central to permaculture are three ethics: care for the earth and people and fair sharing. These form the basis of permaculture design and can also be found in most traditional societies. Permaculture is not the same as organic or ecological gardening. Permaculture opposes monoculture and the loss of biodiversity. Soil plays an extremely important role, hence location/climate and soil determine which (edible) plant species grow.

Amuura in Srilanka manages their land according to the principle of permaculture, in addition, sustainable water management is practiced: as much water as possible is collected and retained. They have already planted more than 1,000 trees and plants: timber trees, ayurvedic trees, spice trees, banana trees, fruit trees, vegetable plants, flowers, and herbs. The ambition is to become a role model for others and to encourage small farmers in the area to also grow food according to this principle. By doing so, they can be more independent from the food industry and rebuild a healthy ecosystem.

Cocopeat factory

PWER.ME Foundation, together with Upvolt and Sri Lanka company Tropical Green Export, is creating small decentralized factories in northern Sri Lanka to produce cocopeat and fiber. The machinery is electrified and power is generated through solar panels. The products are purchased in part by other PWER.ME initiatives. This will create additional employment and also contribute to a more stable energy network in the poorest part of Sri Lanka.

Tropical Green Export aims to grow tropical produce and has a focus on social and environmental sustainability. Their mission is to help meet the country’s export target and evolve into a middle-income country by making the best export products available: Best for people, best for local communities, best for environmental sustainability, and best customer experience.

MH-Foundation

PWER.ME Foundation supports the mission of the MH Foundation.  This foundation is an initiative dedicated to making a difference in the lives of stray dogs and horses, including in Sri Lanka. They believe that every life deserves love, care, and protection, and we invite you to support that with us.

In Sri Lanka, countless stray dogs roam the streets, facing hunger, disease, and neglect. These innocent creatures deserve a chance at a better life. Our primary focus is to rescue, care for, and rehabilitate these stray dogs. By giving them the care they so desperately need, including food, medical treatment, sterilization, and shelter, we can ensure their well-being and give them a second chance. In addition, much attention is paid to education (especially for children). It is important to know how to deal with stray dogs and what the dangers are.

Indonesia, Moluccas

Fish Factory

PWER.ME Foundation, together with Upvolt Energy Solutions, is developing a solar installation in the Moluccas. Despite the fact that the Moluccas is surrounded by several seas and that many people work in fishing, there is no sustainable fishery present. About 20 years ago, the Netherlands built several freezer houses on several islands, but they have never been put into operation because of the lack of reliable energy or insufficient energy.

This project consists of building a sustainable fish factory consisting of a prefab factory, modern installations and solar panels from Upvolt. The factory is independent of unstable local energy. The fish factory can freeze 2,000 kilos per day. Besides freezing, quality and fresh fish will also be prepared for local people.

The Moluccas is an archipelago in the east of the Indian Archipelago. The Moluccas have belonged to the Republic of Indonesia since 1950. The Moluccas consist of over a thousand islands, more than half of which are uninhabited. The inhabited islands are home to different peoples with very different traditions and customs.

Indonesia, East Lombok

Drinking water production

PWER.ME Foundation, together with Upvolt Energy Solutions and other partners, is developing a solar installation on East Lombok to produce drinking water in a sustainable way. There is a shortage of many basics such as clean and cheap drinking water. Many people drink contaminated water causing many people to fall ill.

This project provides for sustainable production of clean and quality water. The project consists of a prefabricated building, Rainmaker’s unique Water-to-Water installations, and solar panels from Upvolt. An average of 75,000 liters of water will be produced per day.

Lombok is an Indonesian island belonging to the Lesser Sunda Islands. It is located in the Indian Ocean east of Bali and west of Sumbawa. The island has about 2.4 million inhabitants, of which about 400,000 live in the capital Mataram. Lombok is somewhat smaller than Bali and has much less tourism. It is also much less prosperous than Bali and has a high unemployment rate. Lombok South has been designated a development area by the government. Several large hotels have now been built. There are also now 7 major international events.

Indonesia, Lombok

Various factories

PWER.ME Foundation, together with Upvolt Energy Solutions and other partners, is developing a solar installation on Lombok to produce chicken meat sustainably. There is a shortage of many basic food items. Chicken is the most popular meat in Indonesia. There are some small chicken factories, but the majority have to be delivered by boat. Besides a shortage of chicken meat, there is also a shortage of eggs. For this sustainable project, a chicken was chosen that lays eggs and is slaughtered after a certain period. The project consists of a hatchery, a chick house, and a chicken farm. All buildings and installations will be delivered prefabricated from the Netherlands. Upvolt supplies the project with renewable energy.
