Sri Lanka, Colombo

Energy Hubs

PWER.ME Foundation, together with E-ZR PWER and SL Mobility, is installing Energy hubs with battery-switching systems for electric scooters in Colombo, the capital of Sri Lanka. The aim is to set up 150 locations in five years and have users participate in the operation of the energy hubs they use. Some hubs will be extended with solar panels, a large battery, and or charging facilities for other vehicles.
Colombo is the capital and largest city in Sri Lanka by population. The Colombo metropolitan area has a population of 5.6 million. It is the financial center of the island and is primarily a tourist destination. It is a busy and vibrant city with a mix of modern life, colonial buildings and monuments.

Food Forest

The PWER.ME Foundation, in collaboration with Biofy, supports the food transition and emphasizes Permaculture, which centers on three ethics: care for the earth and people, and fair sharing. These principles, also found in traditional societies, guide permaculture design. Unlike organic gardening, permaculture opposes monoculture and biodiversity loss, with soil, location, and climate determining suitable plant species.

Amuura in Sri Lanka follows permaculture principles and practices sustainable water management, collecting and retaining as much water as possible. They have planted over 1,000 trees and plants, including timber, ayurvedic, spice, banana, fruit, vegetable, and herb varieties. Their goal is to inspire local farmers to adopt this approach, fostering independence from the food industry and rebuilding a healthy ecosystem.

Sri Lanka

Cocopeat factory

PWER.ME Foundation, together with Upvolt and Sri Lanka company Tropical Green Export, is creating small decentralized factories in northern Sri Lanka to produce cocopeat and fiber. The machinery is electrified and power is generated through solar panels. The products are purchased in part by other PWER.ME initiatives. This will create additional employment and also contribute to a more stable energy network in the poorest part of Sri Lanka.
Tropical Green Export aims to grow tropical produce and has a focus on social and environmental sustainability. Their mission is to help meet the country’s export target and evolve into a middle-income country by making the best export products available: Best for people, best for local communities, best for environmental sustainability, and best customer experience.

MH-Foundation

PWER.ME Foundation supports the mission of the MH-Foundation. This foundation is an initiative dedicated to making a difference in the lives of stray dogs, straycats and horses, founded in the Netherlands and started in Sri Lanka. They believe that every life deserves love, care, and protection, and we invite you to support that with us.

In Sri Lanka, countless stray dogs and stray cats roam the streets, facing hunger, disease, and neglect. These innocent creatures deserve a chance at a better life. Our primary focus is to vaccinate, spay, feed and living them. The second steps would be: to rescue, care for, and rehabilitate these stray dogs and stray cats. By giving them the care they so desperately need, including food, medical treatment, sterilization, and shelter, we can ensure their well-being and give them a second chance. In addition, much attention is paid to education (especially for children). It is important to know how to deal with stray dogs and stray cats and what the dangers are.

The foundation’s work extends beyond direct intervention with animals; it also emphasizes the importance of education to help communities understand the needs of stray animals. Particularly for children, the foundation provides programs to teach them how to treat animals with compassion and respect, while also making them aware of the potential dangers associated with stray animals, such as the spread of diseases like rabies. By vaccinations and spaying we control the population and reduce the risk of contracting deadly diseases such as rabies.

By supporting the MH-Foundation, the PWER.ME Foundation is taking significant steps toward improving the well-being of stray dogs, stray cats and horses, not only by offering immediate care and shelter but also by raising awareness and encouraging responsible pet ownership and community involvement.

 Indonesia, Moluccas

Fish Factory

The PWER.ME Foundation and Upvolt Energy Solutions are developing a solar installation in the Moluccas to support sustainable fishing. Despite the region’s reliance on fishing, past freezer houses built 20 years ago remain unused due to unreliable energy sources.
This project involves creating a sustainable fish factory with prefab construction, modern installations, and Upvolt solar panels. Independent of local energy, the factory can freeze 2,000 kilos daily and provide fresh, quality fish for the local community.
The Moluccas, an archipelago in eastern Indonesia, consists of over 1,000 islands, with more than half uninhabited. The inhabited islands are home to diverse peoples with unique traditions and customs.
Led by PWER.ME Foundation and Upvolt Energy Solutions.
Aimed at supporting sustainable fishing practices.

Heavy reliance on fishing for livelihood.Lack of sustainable practices in the sector.

 Indonesia, East Lombok

Drinking water production

PWER.ME Foundation, together with Upvolt Energy Solutions and other partners, is developing a solar installation on East Lombok to produce drinking water in a sustainable way. There is a shortage of many basics such as clean and cheap drinking water. Many people drink contaminated water causing many people to fall ill.

This project provides for sustainable production of clean and quality water. The project consists of a prefabricated building, Rainmaker’s unique Water-to-Water installations, and solar panels from Upvolt. An average of 75,000 liters of water will be produced per day.

Lombok is an Indonesian island belonging to the Lesser Sunda Islands. It is located in the Indian Ocean east of Bali and west of Sumbawa. The island has about 2.4 million inhabitants, of which about 400,000 live in the capital Mataram. Lombok is somewhat smaller than Bali and has much less tourism. It is also much less prosperous than Bali and has a high unemployment rate. Lombok South has been designated a development area by the government. Several large hotels have now been built. There are also now 7 major international events.

 Indonesia, Lombok

Various factories

PWER.ME Foundation, together with Upvolt Energy Solutions and other partners, is developing a solar installation on Lombok to produce chicken meat sustainably. There is a shortage of many basic food items. Chicken is the most popular meat in Indonesia. There are some small chicken factories, but the majority have to be delivered by boat. Besides a shortage of chicken meat, there is also a shortage of eggs. For this sustainable project, a chicken was chosen that lays eggs and is slaughtered after a certain period. The project consists of a hatchery, a chick house, and a chicken farm. All buildings and installations will be delivered prefabricated from the Netherlands. Upvolt supplies the project with renewable energy.
Lombok, an Indonesian island in the Lesser Sunda Islands, lies east of Bali and west of Sumbawa. Home to 2.4 million people, including 400,000 in its capital, Mataram, Lombok is smaller and less touristy than Bali, with higher unemployment. The government has designated South Lombok as a development area, leading to the construction of several large hotels.
